Ranking data: why some of your positions may currently look off

Ongoing Β· Last updated: October 1, 2026

Since September 25, some of the ranking data in Ranking Monitoring hasn't been as reliable as you're used to. We know many of you rely on these numbers every day, for your own projects and for your clients. So here's what's going on and what you can do in the meantime.

What's happening:

Google has recently stepped up its measures against automated search queries. This affects how ranking data is collected across the entire SEO industry, so it's not just Seobility. Other well-known rank trackers are seeing the same issues.

As a result, some keywords may currently:

  • show positions that don't match what you see in Google, even on page 1
  • show as "not found" although they still rank normally
  • be off for a single day and then back to normal, or off for several days in a row
  • show no Local Pack results

Fixing this is our top priority right now, and we expect your rankings to be back to normal within a few days.

What this means for you:

  • A sudden drop in your rankings or your visibility score may not be real. Compare it with the days before: a jump that reverses the next day is most likely a data issue. Don't make major changes to your site based on data from this period, except content improvements you'd make anyway.
  • If a single keyword looks clearly wrong, you can try running a re-check in Ranking Monitoring. This often returns the correct position, at least for the moment.
  • If you share reports with clients, choose a date range that ends before September 25, or let them know that data from this period may be incomplete. This also applies to automated ranking reports sent since then.

What else you can do:

All features in Seobility that don't rely on SERP data work as usual, so don't lose sight of what still matters:

  • fix technical and structural issues found in your website audit
  • improve your content so it serves your visitors even better
  • or try our new Seobility MCP to use Seobility data in your favourite AI

As soon as the data is reliable again, we'll let you know here and directly in the tool.

Thanks for your patience while we work through this. πŸ’™
