URL too long

Learn what is checked in this report and how to fix any issues found

This list contains pages that have a very long URL (more than 140 characters).

Why you should keep your URLs as short as possible:

The shorter a page's URL, the more likely it is to be fully displayed in the Google SERP snippet. This allows potential visitors to get a better impression of the content of your page.

Long URLs, on the other hand, will be cut off in the search results and can also be confusing for visitors.

How to fix these problems:

See if you can reduce the length of each of the URLs listed below. Ideally, your URLs should be no longer than 140 characters and should not contain more than 5 sub-directories. This includes the domain name, directory, file name and any parameters.

Pay particular attention to the length if you already use a long domain name (e.g. for SEO reasons). Important keywords should be located at the beginning. This will help Google searchers understand the relevance of your page.

Important: If you change your URL, always set up a 301 redirect from the old to the new URL to avoid losing your existing rankings!
